Social Dancing

Social dancing is the most popular form of partner dancing and involves socializing with others through the premise of dancing to your favorite forms of music. Through the use of social dance, many find a wide variety of benefits:

  • Exercise: dance is much more fun than your typical workout and can burn upwards of 400 calories or more. Many already use this wonderful hobby as a way to improve both mental and physical health.
  • Making friends: social dance is an excellent way to meet new people. You already know you will have one thing in common with everyone you meet at a dance social: a love for partner dancing!

Besides dancing at our weekly social dance parties (no partner or experience required at our events), knowing how to social dance is tremendously useful at weddings, black tie corporate events, or even at a local nightclub!

Competitive Dancing

Really love to dance and looking for a challenge? Want to make the most out of your learning? Welcome to the world of Dancesport! If you have a taste for the glitz and glamour that you see on shows like Dancing with the Stars and World of Dance, you are in for a real treat.

Many will be surprised to learn how big the world of competitive ballroom dancing is, even in the Bay Area. With more than a handful of local competitions, and hundreds more all over the world, there are numerous opportunities to test yourself against hundreds of thousands. In fact, in the US alone, there is a competition nearly every weekend.

Competition can be done with another student (referred to as “Amateur/Amateur” or “Am/Am”) or with a teacher as the partner (referred to as “Pro/Am”). Within the world of Ballroom, there are four major categories that students can participate in: International Ballroom/Standard, International Latin, American Smooth, and American Rhythm. These four categories are collectively referred to as “Dancesport.” Besides what Dancesport events offer, there are also competitions/conventions that attract participants who specialize in specific dances, such as Salsa, West Coast Swing, Hustle, Argentine Tango, and more!
